I help people make lifestyle changes from a place of self-care and self-compassion. I practice from a Health at Every Size approach and am weight neutral. This means that we focus on your habits, not your weight.

Hi! My name is Jacquelyn. I am a registered dietitian, nutritionist and a real person! Well, obviously I am a real person. But what I mean is, I can relate to the struggles many have with food, eating and every day living.
I am a mother of three young girls and I get the pressures that are out there. I get the pressures related to eating healthy, planning meals and snacks and even feeling good in one’s body. I also get the real life experiences of those who have been trying to control their weight for what feels like and may actually be, an entire lifetime. Through my personal and professional experiences, I have developed effective counseling techniques and tools that help guide clients to reach their goal.I believe that changes need to be gradual and as we work together you will see how you can reach your goals “one bite at a time”. My non-judgemental approach encourages you to take a new look at eating and your body. I will teach you how to be positive and consistent with health changes. I will help guide you in making these changes and you will be done with quick fixes or yo-yoing. I will help you learn to eat the right mix of food for optimal energy and health. If this is something new for you, like a diabetes diagnosis or even controlling high cholesterol through diet, I will help you make forever changes. Not fleeting changes that so often accompany a new medical diagnosis. How My Approach Evolved
When I started out as a dietitian, I gave people meal plans. I calculated how many calories they needed to meet their weight goals, and then even calculated percentages of macronutrients (carbohydrate, protein, fat) and gave them a specific plan to follow. If I only knew then, what I know now. Meal plans are short term. People lose weight when they are on them, but gain it back plus some when they go off. They are completely unnatural and are not realistic long term. They disrupt our bodies natural cues and can even cause disordered eating or full blown eating disorders. They create a black and white relationship with food and people feel that they are either being good or bad. It snowballs and any time someone eats something they think they should not, they feel like they blew it and it creates a vicious cycle of blowing it and restricting, then restricting and blowing it. People usually go through this cycle several times before they realize what is happening and decide they want to get help and free themselves from this way of eating. It doesn't feel good - emotionally or physically.
After I learned that meal plans did not work, I started to become more interested in the concept of Intuitive Eating. Luckily this was early on in my career and I have spent the last twenty years getting trained and learning about Intuitive Eating. My practice has evolved and instead of telling people what to eat, I help guide them to learn to listen to their bodies to tell them when to eat, what to eat and how much to eat. They are in control. This control helps them find the grey in eating. No more black and white eating. No more only exercising when on a meal plan. Eating and movement is on their terms. This is freeing and is congruent with long term health changes. I find so much joy in helping people find their way and work towards developing a healthy relationship with food, eating and their body.
